Character Education Partnership teams with VC to find state's best

National organization asks Valley Character to finds state award winners

The Character Education Partnership, (www.character.org) a Washington D.C.-based organization that promotes and awards character education initiatives across the nation, selected Valley Character as the top character organization in Virginia.

That honor comes with the responsibility of selecting the best school or school system in Virginia and passing it along to the CEP for consideration in its selection of the National Schools of Character.

The National Schools of Character (NSOC) is a competition in its third year, but this is the first year Virginia schools have been part of it.

Six schools and school divisions applied for the State Schools of Character this year in Virginia.

A panel of three judges has been assembled by Valley Character and trained by the CEP to select the winning schools for the state. Judges are Tonya Taylor, a 4-H and Character Education Specialist with the Virginia Cooperative Extension; Mary Williams of George Mason University; and Vivian Stith-Williams of the Virginia Department of Education.
