We are leaders and representatives of every sector of the southwestern Virginia area, sharing a common belief that our future must be protected by recognizing and promoting the six pillars of character within our community, thus enhancing the positive quality of life.
We recognize that positive growth and success in school, the workplace, relationships, and in one's own inner-self is highly dependant on the character that surrounds each of us, every day.
It is up to each us to produce an environment where everyone knows how much honesty and determination is appreciated and openly recognized.
Valley Character Brochure >>
What We Do:
Valley Character works to unite neighborhoods and their schools to benefit students, families and communities, cutting across the boundaries of all types of organizations to support, expand and transform these resources into assets that people, neighborhoods and communities can use to become more positively self-directed, self-reliant and productive.
Our growing organization creates needed character-building programs for youths 5-18 years old as well as developing programs to help parents, teachers and other adults teach and model good character to young people.
Our Official Mission:
Valley Character strives to increase the quality of life in the Roanoke Valley and surrounding communities by encouraging all residents to engage in civility and compassion for one another through the six pillars of character -- trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring and citizenship.
How We Are Reaching Our Mission:
Valley Character cuts across the jurisdictional boundaries of governing bodies to work toward common quality of life goals for people, individually, in neighborhoods, and in communities by mobilizing an active volunteer corps with the needed skills to access and deploy the collective resources of our region.
Valley Character creates a forum for people to share ideas and opinions, and discuss and create character programs that work. These programs are handed off to schools to promote and implement, or Valley Character volunteers can teach these programs outside of school. These programs are modeled after existing successful programs in other communities.
We invite you to work with us to encourage character!
